Memorial Day weekend is upon us, which means summer is finally here—at least for now! The farm is lush and green, the evenings are stretching longer, and the baby lambs have transformed into full-blown little personalities, bouncing around the pasture. There’s a collective desire to be outside all the time.
Whether this weekend brings sunny skies or the classic unpredictable coastal weather, the farm has your back. More importantly, we’ve got your bellies covered! This time of year is always exciting. It feels like the unofficial kickoff to everything we love most out here: farm stands overflowing, outdoor dinners, people gathering, kids running barefoot through the grass, and just soaking in the joy of simple things in the warm salt air and sun.
And guess what? We are SO close to Wood Fired Fridays starting up for the season!
Wood Fired Fridays: A Magical Summer Experience
Starting June 5th through September 25th, every Friday night, we’ll be hosting wood-fired pizzettes, seasonal small plates, and rotating menus based on what’s fresh from the farm. Picture sourdough pizza, picnic blankets, and sunset views. It’s the whole magical North Fork summer experience!
No reservations. No modifications. Just good vibes. It’s first come, first served. So, definitely invite a friend, bring the kids, grab a bottle of your favorite local wine, and don’t forget to come hungry!

Cafe Highlights: Celebrate with Flavor
Since it’s a holiday weekend, let’s talk about our menu, which feels downright celebratory!
The OG “you’re in France now” ham and cheese sandwich is BACK, and honestly, thank goodness! With dill pickle, dijonaise, ham, and cheese, it’s a simple delight done right. Sometimes, that’s all you need.
Right now, I’m vibing with the lamb curry egg sandwich. It’s got pepper jack, cilantro, za’atar aioli, potatoes, and pickled onion. Warm spices, fresh herbs, creamy and crunchy textures—it somehow tastes cozy and bright at the same time.
And let’s not forget the tacos with braised pork, slaw, crema, and queso. They’re exactly what Memorial Day weekend should taste like!
The Turkish eggs with asparagus, za’atar yogurt, chili crunch, and sourdough continue to be one of the best things we’ve put on the menu this year.
We’ve also got a gorgeous greens situation happening right now with our pickled egg salad. It features arugula, radish, fennel, cucumbers, sungolds, green goddess dressing, sunflower seeds, turmeric pickled onions, and a turmeric egg. Talk about peak spring energy!
And then there’s the lamb gyro with pita, tzatziki, cucumber, onion, olives, and feta. It feels like sunshine on a plate after surviving winter. Honestly, this past winter felt like a survival challenge for many of us!
This is one of my favorite times to sit outside at the farm. You can grab breakfast or lunch, let the kids run around in the grass watching the sheep, and enjoy an incredible sandwich at the picnic tables. It’s a moment to pretend life isn’t moving at 900 miles an hour.

Market Highlights: Your One-Stop-Shop for Memorial Day
The market this week is perfect for anyone wanting to enjoy a fantastic Memorial Day weekend without spending the entire time cooking (and cleaning!).
We’ve got a delightful selection, including hummus, kimchi egg salad, chicken salad with fennel, shallot, cranberry, dill, and chive, horseradish dill potato salad, pasta salad, chicken liver mousse, coleslaw, BBQ pork ribs, chicken wings, shepherd’s pie, and a beautiful Tuscan chicken soup. Honestly, we’ve become a true one-stop-shop, which is everything to me in this busy season of life.

Kitchen Spark: Outsourcing the BBQ
This week’s Kitchen Spark is all about outsourcing my Memorial Day BBQ to the farm. It took just 20 minutes, and everyone wins!
My brain is fried lately from the chaos of spring with four kids, and the weather is supposed to turn this weekend. The big kids head back to their dad’s tomorrow, so we decided to squeeze in one last warm backyard dinner before the beautiful sunny chaos of summer officially begins.
This meant sprinting through the market, grabbing all my favorite things, and pretending I cooked! 😂
We had BBQ ribs, spicy wings, potato salad, coleslaw, pasta salad, sourdough, butter, pickled goodies, kimchi, and my fave wild blueberry spread. Drinks in hand, kids running barefoot through the grass… it was honestly perfect.
This is my favorite kind of entertaining because nobody actually cares if everything is perfect. They just want a place to gather, something delicious to eat, and a reason to slow down for a moment. And truthfully, Fyr & Salt has done most, if not all, of the work for you already.
Memorial Day weekend is the unofficial kickoff to summer here on the North Fork. Whether it’s sunny, rainy, chaotic, beautiful, or all of the above, the farm has your back (and your bellies).
Or better yet… let us help you fake it really well!
